Most organisations think their smartest data people are the ones building the dashboards. Maybe. Can be. Should be.

But the real game usually begins after the dashboard is built.

The people who change outcomes are often the ones asking uncomfortable questions about that story built. The smartest person in the room isn’t always just the analyst explaining the chart. It’s the person willing to ask, “Why are we celebrating this number?”, “What are we not measuring?”, or “Would we make the same decision if this trend moved in the opposite direction?”

Data doesn’t create better decisions by itself. It creates opportunities to challenge assumptions.

And if every chart in your organization is met with nodding heads instead of probing questions, there’s a good chance you’re not building a data-driven culture. You’re just decorating opinions with numbers.
